SUBMITTED QUESTION:

How do I know whether the interview questions I am asking are in compliance with employment laws?

HR’s RESPONSE:

Interview questions should only be used to evaluate a candidates qualifications for a particular positions required  skill set . Interviewers should stay away from any questions that can be deemed discriminatory based on  sex, race, color, national origin, religion.  Interviewers should also be caution when asking a candidate about physical requirements of a job.  Stick with job-related questions and ensure reasonable accommodations are evaluated and given when appropriate.  We can help review your interview questions to ensure you are compliant with Equal Opportunity laws or we can assist in training your staff on best practices while interviewing. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance in your interviewing process.
